Street Haven at the Crossroads has been serving women since 1965. Street Haven operates in the belief that all women are worthwhile. They deserve to be treated with dignity and to be given the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Street Haven's programs are designed to meet the changing needs of women in areas such as culture, mental health, addictions, poverty and homelessness.
Street Haven has an open-door philosophy. All of the programs, The Haven, Grant House, Addiction Case Management, The Learning Centre, Joubert House and Supportive Housing are based on a non-judgmental, total acceptance of each woman.
The Haven
This is an emergency, short-term shelter and drop-in centre. Women are provided shelter, food and clothing. They are also offered support and counselling.
The Haven provides 24 hours support services and is integral to the success of Street Haven.
A Hostel Redirect Program
This program helps women move from shelter to homes. A counsellor finds safe affordable housing and assists women in maintaining their housing.
The Drop-In
In addition, the drop-in centre provides a number of programs and activities - counselling, nutritious meals, yoga, arts & crafts, spirituality groups, movie night and recreational activities.
Grant House
This is a long-term residential treatment centre for women with alcohol and chemical dependency.
The program helps women make positive choices towards significant and lasting changes in their lives.
One on one counselling, group therapy and recreational activities help women develop the skills they need to live free of alcohol and drugs.
Joubert House
This is a home for women with a history of psychiatric illness and homelessness. Careful attention is taken to address all the physical and emotional needs of women.
Counsellors help women set and achieve personal goals towards greater independence.
Supportive Housing
Street Haven owns and manages two apartment buildings - providing safe, affordable, permanent housing for single women.
In addition, a significant amount of work is done assisting women in the community to find suitable housing. Counsellors help women maintain healthy, productive and independent lifestyles.
Addiction Case Management

This program is designed to assist inner-city women to meet their long term needs pertaining to addiction issues. We are dedicated to assisting women with substance abuse issues by:
• Establishing strong supportive relationships with women who need long term assistance • Developing an on-going case plan specific to their needs • Introducing new resources as well as using existing resources • Developing a network of community and peer supports
Our objectives are to:
• Lower rates of substance use through empowerment and recognition of the skills women currently possess • Assist women in becoming familiar with and teach them to effectively use their community resources • Enhance social supports through the use of in-house and community-based groups • Promote the positive use of lifelong coping and survival skills • Improve lifestyle by encouraging women to recognize and meet their own needs - addiction free
We are committed to the belief that every woman has the right to the highest quality of life possible. We are here to support each woman in her quest to be drug-free and meet her individual goals and needs.
The Learning Centre

This centre is devoted to helping women learn basic skills in reading, writing, math, computers and job search techniques. The Centre provides a supportive learning environment that allows each woman to reach her potential. Staff and volunteers provide women with instruction in small groups and on a one-on-one basis.
• English upgrading • Math upgrading • Basic computer skills • Assistance with job search techniques • Information and referral • Individual assessment • Learning plans
The Learning Centre reaches out to the community and provides assistance in a number of ways to women who need help in reading, writing, math and computer skills. We believe all women deserve an opportunity to learn, build self-esteem and accomplish their goals.
